LAUSANNE, May 2009

Enjoying working with a hotel which keeps on delivering beyond expectations and having a warm welcome from the host city? Arranging for a group reception and dinner in a unique setting and everything coming together seamlessly? Conference coordinators jumping to help and find solutions? No, this is not science-fiction. It is Lausanne, Switzerland.

For as many conferences and events we have organized, we have never encountered such symbiotic quality resources and services as we have discovered in Lausanne, in conjunction with our 2009 International Sports Management Conference: Innovative Solutions held May 6-8, 2009.  The City of Lausanne, the Region of Lausanne along with the Canton of Vaud are three interdependent entities who know that the business of sales and marketing does not end with an ad placed in a magazine nor with a booth at a travel convention. They know it means working with those who bring in the business, meeting them on site, absorbing the event's details and needs, responding, reacting and working most promptly. Impressive? Absolutely! A model for Convention and Tourism Bureaus around the world? You bet!

Movenpick Hotel and its phenomenal staff (Guillaume, Suzana, Alois and everyone else there) deliver. Period. No waiting. No attitude. No half-ways. Just impeccable. The meeting space on the ground floor (easily adaptable to accommodate up to 200 pax school setup) is right next to a smaller room which allows for the serving of breaks and lunches. Two screens drop from the ceiling, the LCD projector is hung in the middle of the room and can be remotely oriented to face any wall. Food is absolutely delicious and sufficiently portioned, the coffee is fabulous (an "ambulant" machine is brought in for each break) and the desserts are, well...  to LIVE for!!!

One of the most memorable places to organize a group event in Lausanne (especially if the group is involved in sports) is the Olympic Museum. With an impressive collection of memorabilia, virtual itineraries in time, documents and photography, medals and Olympic torches, sports gear and latest technological applications, plus a huge, yet searchable video library--the museum teaches, enlightens, and ultimately brings a new dimension to what one may have seen or experienced as an athlete or spectator. The terrace of the museum opens to a magnificent view of the lake and is an incredible place to host a cocktail party; the restaurant (same top floor) provides a great meal with prompt service. A must for everyone, individual or group visiting Lausanne!

Not to miss here: the Old Town, the Museum of Fine Arts, a walk along the lake, chocolate (and more chocolate!), Movenpick's divine ice-cream, and an exploration of the Beau Rivage's public spaces.  Take advantage of free public transport - Lausanne provides visitors with a Transport Card (allowing for free and unrestricted travel on public means of transportation for the duration of their stay in the city's hotels). Take the boat or rent a car and drive to Vevey and Montreux, visit Chillon Castle and sip some wine in one the great wineries of the region.

Bottom line - don't waste time looking elsewhere: bring your event to this place and you will have a memorable solution!
